BlackPink has returned with a killer EP

It’s been a long time coming but they’re finally back. BlackPink have finally released their long-awaited mini album ‘Square Up’. 'Square Up' has only four tracks. The intense hype that surrounds this foursome have paid off once again, with the recent release of the BlackPink light sticks and single that top the charts they seem to be slaying this comeback once again. Ever since their debut they have been killing it with their flawless choreography and vocals/raps and this come back it’s no different.

Although I think most fans were slightly disappointed that the EP only has four tracks. This EP will have to quench the fans thirst for these K-pop queens. Each song is very well made and catchy. Each one of the girls has a hand it making me love this EP.

The track list is:

  1. DDU-DU-DDU-DU

  2. Forever young

  3. Really

  4. See U later

“DDU-DU DDU-DU” sticks to the true BlackPink style, the song starts out with a beat that reminds you of “Boombayah” and “As if it’s your last” loud and Cocky staccato beats. The song has a great bridges and dance break down. As always Jennie is the queen of intros with her incredible vocals and later shows her rap skills. The mv is filled with bright, cheerful colours and intense choreography it’s hard to look away for a moment without missing some of the killing points in the choreography. Each member is given a chance to show their individual charms

“Forever young” is a slightly slower song but still has beats they can dance. This track is able showcase the girls vocal capacities. Although the songs breakdown sounds like a completely different song I think it was a brave choice that paid off.

“Really” is a bit of a basic composition that doesn’t really stand out. Lisa’s raps are the only this that saves this song from being to bland. I think I had higher expectations as this is only a four track EP.

“See U later” is the complete opposite from “Really” it’s a real bop. With it’s easy and repetitive hooks makes this song a great sing along, with catchy beats and clever ad-libs this is a true K-pop bop.

I like that BlackPink never stray from their style, they know their identity and it shows through their music and fashion statement and this comeback is no different from the BlackPink I know and love.
